Herzlich Willkommen

Greetings to all singers, delegates, and guests,

The Germania Singing Society is is honored and proud to host the 36^th Sängerfest and welcome you to Poughkeepsie as we celebrate our German heritage. We are working diligently to make the weekend successful and enjoyable for all participants.

Our goal is to continue promoting and advancing German culture and tradition through music and song while maintaining the high standards of previous Sängerfeste.

Festdirigent und Begleiter
Festival Director and Accompanist

Mr. Ronald A. Bemrich has been named as the Festival Music Director by the Germania Singing Society of Poughkeepsie. He is known for his versatility as a conductor, teacher and performer.

After graduating from Northwestern University, he went to Brussels, Belgium where he earned diplomas in voice and opera at the Academie de Musique and sang solo tenor with the Opera of Flanders and the Vlaams Kameropera in Antwerp, as well as the Royal Theatre in Mons. He often performed in solo recital, including a series for the Ministre de Culture Francaise.

Upon returning to the U.S., he was a member of the voice faculty and lectured in music history at several institutions including the University of Miami and New World School of the Arts. He also continued his work as a performer and music director in venues such as the Cocoanut Grove Playhouse and the Public Theater in Ft. Lauderdale.

As a conductor Mr. Bemrich has worked with a variety of choral and instrumental groups, professional and amateur, including the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Windsor Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in Windsor, Ontario, and University of Michigan Choral Union In Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Having recently relocated to Hudson Valley, he has acted as interim Music Director of Cappella Festiva in Poughkeepsie and is continuing in his position as a voice instructor at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City.
